When sunlight hits Earth's surface, different places warm at different speeds. For example, land warms fast and the ocean warms slowly. During the day the ground is heated, and the air near the ground also gets warm. Warm air expands, becomes lighter, and rises. After it rises, the area near the ground is left a bit empty. The surrounding cooler, heavier air flows in to fill the spot. As air fills and flows, we feel the wind. Bigger wind is also related to large-scale pressure differences. Air in high-pressure regions is crowded, while air in low-pressure regions is looser, and air flows from high to low pressure. The greater the pressure difference, the faster the air rushes, and the stronger the wind.

海边白天常常会有海风。白天陆地升温比海水快,陆地上方空气变热上升,海面上较凉的空气就往陆地吹,这叫海风。晚上陆地降温快,海水相对暖,风向可能反过来,形成陆风。
